loop – Empowering teachers personal, professional and social continuous development through innovative peer-induction programmes
Duration: 28/02/2021 – 27/02/2024
The main objective of the LOOP project is to contribute to the shift towards a comprehensive teaching profession policy that spans all stages of teaching careers. Project aims to measure the impact and scalability of formal training of mentors’ programme and teacher’s induction programme, in order to improve the career paths in the teaching profession, based in a set of hypothesis: formal training of mentors’ programmes to train experienced teachers and school leaders facilitates the deployment of effective and formal teacher’s induction programmes; the opportunity for experienced teachers and school leaders to diversify their career options and act as mentors of their peers contributes to their motivation and maintenance on the system; peer-developed teachers induction programmes based on mentoring activities support the professional development of teachers initiating their careers and their maintenance on the system; formal induction programmes applied at the school level contribute to the social and cultural inclusion and development of new teachers; structured mentoring programs adapted to the context increases the interest and success of its participants; the training of mentors facilitates the implementation of teachers’ induction programs; and lack of resources and guidance are the reasons for not implementing induction programs in schools. A quasi-experimental methodology of 4 Building Blocks will be used during the course of the project: preparing the soil; participatory design of the policy instruments; field trials in real environments; and building policy recommendations from the field. Through the focus on improving teaching careers paths as well as empowering teachers to better navigate throughout the career system, and in terms of rethinking career structure and guidance, LOOP will design, test and validate two programmes fostering the continuous professional development of teachers—an induction programme for new teachers and a mentors' capacitation programme for experienced teachers.
