ZOOM OUT – APPROACHING CHILDREN’S LITERATURE FROM AN INTERSECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE

Duration: 01/10/2023 - 30/09/2026

Europe has a rich and vast children’s literature heritage: folk tales collected by the Brothers Grimm, the unforgettable Andersen’s fairy tales, the rebel female Lindgren’s characters Pippi and Ronja, the engaging plots of Herge’s Adventures of Tintin, the magic of Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, the fascinating literary univers of Ana María Matute, or the unsettling story of Collodi’s Pinoccio… Currently, we find a growing problematisation of children’s literature related to the reproduction of stereotypes and prejudices on axes of discrimination such as gender, origin, racialization, sexual orientation or social class. Zoom Out is a project that aims to foster critical thinking and common values by approaching European children’s literature from an intersectionality to develop citizenship, cultural awareness & literacy competences among students and teachers. It engages school teachers, pre-service teachers and students in the elaboration of educational resources, it develops resources to foster social and intercultural competences and critical thinking from an intersectional perspective, with the aim of raising awareness on inclusion and diversity.
